Shalon
Kearney, RN, MSN
Shalon
Kearney traveled the country side for 9 years. While looking for her calling in
life, she discovered her desire to write and help others who also wanted to travel
or were currently traveling and wanted more information than what was out there.
She wrote the book
titled: Hitting the Road: A guide to travel nursing. The book was published by
Lippincott and has been very successful.
| Once she began
writing, "the book took on a life of it's own", she said. "This
is when you know you are writing something that was needs to be written,"
she says. |
While writing the book, she could
see what seemed to be missing in the travel industry. The
industry needed a sense of community, a place to go and get or share information.
Travelers were also looking for answers to the ongoing
question: who is the best company to work for? Travelers
also needed a place to go for support and answers to tax questions and travel
tips. After the book, she then designed this site
to help fill in some of those gaps. She prides herself
in the fact that the site is not commercialized and therefore, the true story
of travel nursing is presented and not just the commercial rosy picture side.
| "Traveling
is a wonderful profession, she says, but it has it's ups and downs like any other
profession." | She is here for
the traveler and makes herself available to questions any time someone needs travel
advice. She hopes to aide in improving the standards
of the travel nursing industry. "I am still
working on a way to improve the paperwork issues when applying to travel companies.
Too much paperwork", she says. She has limited
time, but she consistently works to improve the site and bring readers what they
need and has for the last 5 years. |
