  • Many imported Asian nurses on work visas unhappy about being there.(Don't get me wrong I love and embellish culture diversity; but if you don't want to be there it reflects on others.) If you don't speak Spanish you can get in a bind and have to depend on the few Spanish-speaking staff they have or are willing to help. The new EMAR/Patient Identification- Medication Delivery system cart HCA has incorporated is very time-consuming and not nurse-friendly especially when having to tote it around with every move you make. However, the South Texas tropical scene makes you feel like your on a vacation the entire off-time of your contract with MANY things to do and see. The beaches rival Cancun without leaving the US. Vibriant new growth is very expansive. I had four Starbucks to choose from within a 5 mile area of my apt. Go with a company that has no ties/subcontract with HCA's own AllAboutStaffing. If the company does subcontract you will see a 4-5$ an hour less difference in pay from other travel companies. Enjoy Mexico eight miles away!! Read up before you go.
  • I worked in the Med-Surg/Tele department(s) in the hospital. Housing was approximately 8 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was St. Antimo Apts. Housing was located in city of McAllen. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 1. Very new and cheap construction gives way to noises and sounds that were yours and for your ears only! Get an upstairs apt! Washer/dryer hook-ups available at your cost. Bring your own microwave. Very nice pool/BB-Q area, business center and work-out room. Attentive mgmt in gated complex. I recommend The Rincon Apt complex just down the street if travel company slurges on it.
