  • I worked in the Progressive Care Unit department(s) in the hospital. This unit is out of control. The vast majority are new grads who were apparently hired for their looks not ability because they don't have a clue and they certainly don't care. After report the gang of twenty somethings sit and socialize and until it is time to pass meds. The priority is where are we going to order food from tonight. Nursing assessment and care is non-existent. The traveler gets the isolations, the unstable chest pains, the afib RVR and at least one severe DTs patient while the princesses take the least acute patients. No help from anyone. Know how to call a code! Techs are abused and carry the place. The only the the princesses leave the break room is if the tech says hey your patient pulled out his Iv or is on the floor. Then they whine about because "they never have a good night." Get a clue Dana RN. With these girls if their lips are moving they're lying. It's the culture there. Steer clear.Thank God for the techs, I could not have survived without them. This is a very busy 40 bed unit which turns over half of it's patients every day. The cardiologists are understandably ticked off all of the time. This place can't keep nurses because the princess types are so ridiculously immature and incompetent. This hospital is totally profit driven, the nursing staff is anyone with a pulse. Typical unethical low level Maryland community hospital. Avoid this lovely experience. You are an island. If you are very strong in your skills it is doable, especially if you can handle doing detox every night but know that your RN coworkers will screw you left and right and you have to speak up and object and say no these two patients need to be separated. 09/13/2014
