Mobile in the Information Highway
As you travel along United States highways, you may find yourself feeling out of the loop when it comes to receiving information and communication via your internet and computer. In a perfect world you would be able to pull over to the side of the road and log onto the internet with your lap top.
Technology has now made this a reality. You are no longer required to have a phone line in order to log onto the internet. Cell phone companies are now making it possible for customers to access the internet and do everything from check email to serf the net at specific locations such as Starbucks Café and Borders Book Store using a lap top computer.
In addition, many cell phone companies can now offer wireless internet service anywhere in the United States, where significant wireless phone signals are found. A customer purchases a credit card sized phone card, which slides into a compartment in the lap top, and they can log on practically anywhere. The cell phone companies charge a monthly fee for the wireless service at around $30 to $50 dollars a month.
Many new computers are equipped with built in wireless capabilities and would not require the use of the phone card. Customers requiring the card for their computer can purchase the card at a cell phone company or computer store. The 802.11 b card costs between $30 to $80 dollars. After the customer signs up for the monthly wireless internet service, they are ready to log on while on the road!
Some computer stores are unaware of how this new technology works, so the best place to get more information is through your cell phone company.
