Landing an Assignment
Do you want to travel, but wonder where to start? Don't think about
it too long, just do it. That is a wonderful saying that I try to
remember from time to time when I am hesitating on something. If
you want to travel you need to get all your ducks in a row.
Have all your ducks in a row
Since a travel assignment can be landed so fast, make sure you
have all your ducks in a row. The application process can happen
fast once you show an interest in an assignment location. Make sure
that all your lose ends are tied up so you can leave at a moments
notice, if you want to. Also, make sure you have all your paperwork
together to provide the agency if they have an assignment that sounds
right for you.
Wait for the hospital interview
However, don't feel that you have to rush through the process.
It's ok to say, "I am not ready for a hospital interview, I
am checking out all my opportunities right now." Once you accept
the interview, you will more than likely be offered the job soon
and will have to make a decision on the relatively quickly. If the
assignment doesn't strike you right away and you feel like you have
to keep looking around then perhaps it isn't the best assignment
for you anyway.
Don't be led into it because the opportunity might pass you by.
Don't worry, that same hospital will have an assignment again. The
opportunity will come again, perhaps when you are ready for it.
Also, there are so many neat options that you won't have trouble
find something comparable.
When you have narrowed it down to the company you want, and you
have a good idea where you want to go and how much you want to make,
then accept a hospital interview that matches your criteria.
Whatever you do, please don't verbally accept an assignment to
try and hold it while you continue to look around. This will burn
your bridges in the long run. It's no a very nice way to play the
game, but some travelers do it. It's just bad business to do that.
Be honest from the beginning. You will be better off in the long
run.
Let's face it, with all the options out there, it can be difficult
to chose. There is always something that looks even better. Yet,
if you commit, stick to your commitment and then look for something
else next time. You learn something new with each assignment.
