Why Travel Nursing Companies Require a Contract

Most companies require a travel contract. Is a contract really necessary?

Contracts don’t really seem necessary until you have a misunderstanding with your company and then the contract becomes very important. It is easy to misinterpret what someone is saying and to have a different set of expectations.

Puts you on the same page

A contract makes sure everyone is on the same page or has the same understanding of the terms of the contract. Also, agencies need this documentation themselves in order to keep track of all their commitments. They negotiate agreements with several nurses a day.

Solidifies your assignment

Once you have a contract, you have proof of having an assignment. This assures you that the terms and conditions have not only been settled with you, but also with the hospital. You are on your way to being paid to travel and work. Yes, you do have to work, but it is fun. By the time you begin to get bored with a facility, it’s time to move on unless you elect to stay.

Provides Consequences

Any agreement (especially written) is grounds for possible legal action or consequences if necessary. If there is a breach of contract, you at least have something to fight with. The contract is always subject to interpretation and state laws, but you at least have something to work with. Rarely is legal action necessary. However, contracts in general help everyone maintain their commitments.

Contracts are for you as much as they are for the travel agency. NO CONTRACT is bad business. If you ever talk to a company that does not provide a contract, stay away. They are more than likely…..bad news.
