A Culinary Travel Nurse Twist
Working hard and traveling around can work up an appetite or at least a good excuse to
eat out. Trying different foods distinct to your area can be a great deal of fun. I still
wish, for example, that I tried barbeque bear while on assignment in Alaska.
Nevertheless, I did try their fresh Halibut fixed every way you can think of. It was
delicious. I still crave it.
Some states are well known for their unique foods. For instance, most people have heard
of the Idaho Potato or the Boston Cream Pie, but what about South Carolina? While
cuisine is influenced by more than state boundaries, I will attempt to provide a little
interesting trivia to get you started on your travels with a culinary twist.
If you go to www.gti.net/mocolib1/kid/foodfaq4.html, they have used a variety of sources
to gather a list of representative foods for each area. They do a good job. It turns out that
Frogmore stew is a suggested food for the South Carolina area.
Of coarse, there will always be foods found in an area that can never be found in a text
book or online, but they make your mouth water and want to return to certain areas.
When I was in Philadelphia, they had the best Pizza Philadelphia Cheese Steaks. Also,
you can order Menudo in some restaurants in Texas. I didn’t really like it, but I had to try
it. Also, Florida had a whole in the wall place with the best grouper sandwiches I have
ever had.
Food can be fun, in moderation. One time, I took an assignment to a quant little town in
Pennsylvania with several great restaurants. I met another traveler there who wanted to
try all restaurants in the area. We had a great time meeting at different eating places
every night and talking about our lives and where we might go. |
