A Time to be Thankful- Travel Nurses

Thanksgiving is a reminder for all of us to remember the things we are thankful for. Sometimes when we are burnt out, we may take our profession for granted. For those of you that have been in nursing for awhile, I invite you to look back.

How many times, especially if you are female, have you been glad you have nursing to fall back on when you need to cover the bills? Nursing is a pretty good paying profession and well respected too.

What other professions give you such a wide variety of opportunity. You can work with any kind of population from babies to the mentally ill. You can even work in educating other nurses or work on a more technical end such as the operating room or helping to design medical charting.

Nursing also allows you to travel all over the United States and have it paid for. Not very many professions do that. You can also move to anywhere in the United States and not worry about whether you are going to be able to find work in the area.

All these things bring some peace of mind, especially if the economy takes a down turn. Nursing has a good chance of being in high demand for many, many years to come.

Overall, nursing has been good to me and I have been lucky to have it in my back pocket. It’s not an easy job, nor is it stress free. Nurses better have a good pair of shoes from day one.

The only other job that I may have considered in a different lifetime is to be a psychologist. However, I would have never been able to travel as a psychologist. Traveling has provided experiences of a lifetime.
