Wacky Weather on Travel Nurse Assignments
Weather is one of those things we seldom consider when traveling. Yet, we are subjected
to the weather a great deal while traveling, especially when we are on the road to our next
destination. One traveler I met, Vern, says he saw 6 tornados in Oklahoma in one day. I
wish I could have gotten more of that story. I think it is possible, I saw a couple of
tornados myself on one of my drives. I have also been caught is those thunderstorm
where you have to pull off the road because you can no longer see the road in front of
you.
This article is not meant to scare or discourage anyone from traveling. These are just the
factors we deal with in every day life. The weather is prevalent in my mind right now
with all the recent hurricanes on the east coast.
If you were to ever get caught in a hurricane, would you know what to do? Experts say
to stay inside, keep a storage of water and food that does not require refrigeration. Also,
battery operated flash lights are good to keep around. They say not to be fooled by the
eye of the storm, which is calm, because more of the storm is yet to come.
If you go to www.nws.noaa.gov, you can get a view of all the current watches and
advisories in the United States. Their map shows current thunderstorms and more.
Another website I find interesting is www.wunderground.com. This website gives you
an entire comparison on the United States map of several detailed variables in just one
glance such as: humidity, wind-chill, heat index, visibility, snow depth, UV forecast, flu
forecast, and air quality. They also offer information on an international level.
Finally, www.weather.com seems to be the most comprehensive weather site I found.
This website provides information from airport and flight delays, interstate driving
forecast to local fairs and festivals.
You may want to take a look at these website before going on a trip just to help you plan
your route, what time of day you will travel and whether you will camp or stay in a hotel.
You can even get email local forecasts delivered to you by email by going to
http://weather.yahoo.com.
