  • I worked in the OR department(s) in the hospital. I’m an OR Tech and the OR make you go through a 3 week orientation to scrub in with someone before you could start working on your own. I found that unusual and counterproductive to being hired as a traveler. I suppose it’s good for someone who is either relatively new to traveling or lazy. I didn’t Iike it because I wanted to be on my own right away which is what I am used to working at every hospital. Besides I wanted to start my shift ASAP on 3-11pm where I thrive. So I asked the manager if I could start my shift after one week of orientation instead of 3 and she obliged. There is a covered parking garage adjacent to the hospital but only if your shift is passed 9pm. Otherwise you have to park in the open lots which are located about half a mile from the hospital. The staff were nice and friendly to me and other travelers and so were the managers. OR was ran fairly efficiently. However they don’t keep a lot of supplies in the rooms so if you needed something you would have to run to SPD. They did a wide variety of cases. I just didn’t enjoy doing some of the cases such as gender reassignment surgery and huge ENT oncology that were long and tedious. I did extend my initial 13 week contract to another 13 weeks only because I had to sign a 6 month lease at my apartment which I found on South Beach. The cafeteria food was not only awful but expensive as well. I don’t recommend eating there. Bring your lunch/dinner. Also I was never interviewed by anyone when I was hired. It would have been helpful as I would’ve discovered that they didn’t do trauma. Jackson, their next door neighbor, is a Level 1 trauma center. These hospitals are all located near downtown Miami so the area isn’t the best. They are easy to get to get to though since they’re right off I-95. There are a ton of things to do in Brickell which is close by. And South Beach is only 10-15 minutes away. 05/19/2018
  • Housing was approximately 6 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was South beach private rental. Housing was located in city of Miami Beach. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 4. I would not stay in this area. There are lots of places in South Beach available for short term rental. A lot of good restaurants are in South Beach also. Lokum Mediterranean on 17th and Lincoln has awesome lamb chops. Sushi Express on 15th and Washington has fresh and reasonably price sushi that is open late. Krispy Krunchy Chicken on 13th and Washington has really good fried chicken and is open 24 hours. Safron Mediterranean Grill on 10th and Washington has very good shish kebab and fair prices.
