  • I worked in the Med/surg, Tele, ER, ICU department(s) in the hospital. Smaller hospital, approximately a 40 bed med/surg unit,12 bed ICU, NPU,OB,CSU,and an extremely busy ER : Absolutely amazing attitude toward travelers, treat you more like family. Self scheduling and staff willing to switch days with you if something comes up. Available overtime if desired.Thorough orientation and staff ready to help with any questions.May float to other units at times-and when floated the staff doesn't dump on travelers and are very appreciative of your help. The facility will allow travelers to renew certifications such as NIHSS,PALS,BLS,ACLS,SAFE at no cost to traveler- all you give up is the class time without pay. Charge nurses work right along beside other staff; as do the Rns, LPNs and CNAs, nightshift especially has excellent teamwork. The Doctor's and Surgeons interact well and respect the nurses and make themselves very available during and after hours. A Hospitalist is always in house. Very knowledgeable efficient ICU staff that loves to teach. ER staff welcomes travelers and staff that floats to help out. Not once was I made to feel like an outsider, nor did I ever witness anyone else treated as such. Patient/Nurse ratio on med/surg averaged 5:1,plus a charge nurse,a procedure nurse and 2 to 3 CNAs. Charting System is Meditech. 24 hour Pharmacy quick to set you up in the Pyxis and ready to answer any questions or help with concerns. Able to take your breaks without hassles. House Supervisor always checking how things are and willing to help out where needed. Time sheets simple and easy to get signed by house supervisor also. Nurse manager makes it a point to know you on first name basis and is available to meet with you-is extremely fair, easy to approach, and understands that sometimes life happens. The cafeteria is only open until 6pm but there are several convenience stores and fast food options nearby. Functional vending machines are available. 01/01/2019
  • Housing was approximately 5 to 10 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Various available. Housing was located in city of West Plains. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 3. Housing options may be somewhat limited.Average nightly cost is about $60 per room. There are at least 4 hotels, a motel,a few apartment complexes, and an RV park close by.
