  • I worked in the Emergency department(s) in the hospital. Wellmont has been one of the best facilities that I have worked for since being a traveler. Their organization and flow of patients is efficient in getting the job done. There typically is not a long wait time in the ER. Patient's are typically seen in a timely manner. There are occasions where this may be an exception but for the most part the staff does their very best. The staff were not very welcoming at first but over the time I spent in the ER I began to find some friendly faces. Staff began to recognize that I was part of the team and were more willing to get to know me and were more helpful. As far as food, I counted on myself to pack lunch. The cafeteria is not open when nightshift comes in and Subway is the only option. No much opportunity to change up the meal choices. Staff does quite frequently order food from local Mexican restaurants, etc. Nurse ratio is 4/1. This is not typically a bad ratio at this hospital because there are techs that help out with tasks. The doctors, PAs, and NPs are for the most part very friendly and supportive. They are very personable and good to the patients. Sometimes communication between providers and nurses lacks so just do your best to make sure you keep in touch with providers. Know what is important to be communicated. The facility uses epic and the facility gives you a full 2 day course on how to navigate the system. Administration was poor when it came to working with travelers. The administration in the ED lacked communication with travelers and were guilty of making accusations without asking. (ex. I was told I needed to attend a class the night prior to the class that everyone else had known about for a month. I was unable to go due to prior plans to leave that morning for a visit home. The nursing manager of the ED was upset because she assumed I had chose not to come to the class and was unaware I did not know about the class until the night before.)The hospital warned me that they would not be able to accommodate to any specific kind of schedule so I did not expect to get the schedule I wanted. They have travelers to fill in the spots they are missing. They are pretty fair about giving you days off that are needed if notified in advance. Parking is free and close to the ER. Overall I had a pretty good experience with this facility. I extended my contract and would have thought about extending again if I was not ready to experience something new. 12/23/2017
  • Housing was approximately 13 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was private housing . Housing was located in city of Piney Flats . On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 4. Housing in this area I am not really sure about because I was lucky and able to stay with a travel nurse friend's mother.
  • I worked in the medical stepdown department(s) in the hospital. 3-5 high acuity patients with lots of issues going on. Be on you game if going there. Some openly talk about travelers. You will get the shaft over regular employees, but some co workers we very nice and helpful. doctors not friendly, but good on call setup for nurses to call about patients. Couldn't wait for my contract to be over. 10/26/2016

Staff was so-so, but there moral was horrible 30 bed unit 8-10 pts. per night. 95% Travelers staffed floor. Suppose to be Team Nursing, That was a Joke!!!!! Total care more like it.... If you wanted to kill yourself Overtime Abundant... Because Management and Staffing office was Horrible, plus Moral so low and reg. staff working so much ot that they were burnt out. I could go on but you get the picture... Stay away... P.S. Area beautiful, but with Papermill, and so Much Manufacturing... AIR Quality STUNK>>>>>>
