  • I worked in the Surgical Oncology department(s) in the hospital. The staff were very friendly toward travelers--however, the staff did not get along with each other very well. There were two main "cliques" and they were constantly talking trash about each other and spreading rumors. I felt like I was back in elementary school. RNs usually had 5 patients and there were only 2 aides for 30 patients. Some aides were very good, and others could never be found when you needed them. Managenent ignored this issue. Pay was $27 an hour which is actually pretty good for FL. The hospital was old...no tube system so every time you needed something from blood bank, pharmacy, etc you had to go pick it up. However they are building a new hospital that should be open next year. The hospital had an IV team and a phlebotomy team so that was nice. Charting system is computerized and not very user friendly. All MD orders are handwritten, then entered on the computer by the secretary. Parking is pretty good...in a gated lot and monitored by police officers. The worst part of working in FL is that you have to take the PBDS assessment test at 7am on your first day there. If you don't pass...you pack up and go home b/c your contract is cancelled. This test is hard to study for b/c no one really tells you what is on it. And the grading system seems shady.... It's nice being close to the beach but traffic is horrible. Beach was 10 miles from my apartment but it could take me up to an hour to get there. Jan-March is their busy season....watch out for snowbirds on the road b/c they aren't watching out for you. 05/01/2008
  • Housing was approximately 10 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was The Ashlar. Housing was located in city of Fort Myers. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. beautiful landscaping.....huge windows....pool, workout room, movie theater, coffee bar, free wi fi at the pool, staff very pleasant, pond with fountain and "beach"...gated, however gates were usually propped open, nice neighborhood, close to shopping and entertainment, loud neighbors but that is in any apt
  • I worked in the EMERGENCY department(s) in the hospital. The staff was very friendly and respectful to one another. The doctors treated and respected the staff well. The surrounding community and hospital are in a poor area and don't have a very good reputation. I provided my own housing as I am from NY. 06/04/2007
